This wasnt hapening before.
Why would this be?
Is there a spring that loosens the calipers that maybe is ineffective in releasing the pads back to their original location?

Sorry I previously owned old VWs - strictly drums - so new to this invention - the disk brake.

Over the last 2 weeks Ive owned the car.

Also noticed just there that the disk itself comes loose and isnt part of the hub.
Is that right?

So you have only owned the car for two weeks and not done any work on the brakes before this problem occurred?

The caliper piston does not have a return spring, the pads are in light contact with the discs at all times but if the brake drags excessively and gets hot, something is wrong. This could be a split piston boot causing a corroded and seized piston, corroded caliper slider pins, pads corroded to the carriers or a hydraulic problem such as a failed brake hose acting as a one way valve or even a servo or master cylinder problem, even the ABS pump (if fitted) has been known to cause this problem.

The discs on most Audi’s are not held with a retaining screw like other cars which is very irritating but they have stopped doing this on the latest cars.

Cheers, Ive basically been driving it around short distances as I got the car for a very reasonable price so am just waiting on the issues raising their heads.
So not a simple problem?
So is the braking system on the coupe the same as the Audi 80?

Im looking for a manual but there isnt one.

The system is almost the same as the saloon with some small differences.

Im looking for a manual but there isnt one.

There is a Haynes Manual that covers the earlier model coupes (up to 1990) which are not that different from the late coupe. Though the V6 engine was not covered, but there is a manual for the Audi 100/earlyA6 which covers the V6.

Not Ideal I know, but gives you something to go on?

'old style 20v.org has good info on the hydraulic brake assist, which for some reason 12v.org does not seem to cover..

aimed more at the 2,8, but the 2.6 is very similar
