I would like to highlight a very real problem with this dealer. I have been very impressed with the MOT service provided by Audi for cars over 5 yeary old. My A6 is 10 years old and have taken advantage of this service since it's conception. My MOT in 2009 highlighted that my front discs and pads required replacing and failed the MOT, I declined Audi offer to fix. I thought this was odd as I changed out the disce and pads 4 months previously so had another MOT done at an independant garage and sure enough my car failed on CV joint failure not a brake problems, in fact, Teeside Audi failed to spot this potentially fatal problem. I phoned the dealership and complained to the service manager who assured me he would deal with this.
My MOT in Febuary 2010 at Teeside Audi (I thought I would get better service, somehow) my car failed it's MOT on split CV gaiters which I had changed out during last years CV joint failure as both looked ready to split. I again declined Audi offer to fix and had another MOT done and supprise, supprise the car passed the MOT.
I thought it was time to highlight this to Audi UK as this is a rip off situation, I know the MOT is free but in the current climate my feeling is Audi are on a claw back to recoup some money. The Service manager at Teeside Audi Derek Totty informed me that the CV joint is not checked during a MOT and wanted me to take my car over to check out the gaiters. I think not!!
The outcome, is not much really Audi customer service are useless and the dealer is not interested that, maybe someone could die due to poor MOT service and incompetance.
Sorry long rant for my first post but need to vent some frustration

That doesn't inspire me with confidence :(
My MOT's due in June and I had planned on using the free MOT so that any problems can be fixed before the warranty runs out.
The problem is Teesside Audi is my nearest dealer. My only experience with them so far hasn't been favourable. They took about 3 hours to replace the radio (blamed the paperwork ) and then when the exhaust sensor failed they said they wouldn't have a loan car for 3 weeks.

Sorry been there done that. I took my car in due to the fuel gauge erratic display, I was informed that the fuel sender was to blame. This was duly changed out and ran for a couple of days. I ran out of fuel on the Tees flyover in rush hour, the fuel gauge was reading 1/4 full. I was not happy, I was offered a discount on a replacement cluster. It was wrongly diagnosed and not offered any compensation for cost on a part not required.

Update of this issue.
Had a meeting with Seamus Watson the head of business at Teesside Audi. He listened to my views, I let him inspect all the documentation relating to the issue with a outcome of nothing really. He took my car to inspect the CV gaiters, he confirmed these where not split as stated on the MOT failure cert. All he could tell me was the MOT technician saw leaking grease from both gaiters and as part of the MOT criteria the technician is not allowed to wipe, clean, prod, remove or touch anything as part of a MOT, the technician just thought the gaiters were split. What is disturbing both gaiters needed new clips during the subsequent MOT. The difference between split gaiters and repositioning of gaiters is around £200, and thats dependant on the splines separating which could add another £250 onto the bill.
I pressed him for a responce on the missed CV joint failure and other issues, but unable to comment on an issue over a year old. I left the dealer unsure and unconvinced enough to trust this dealer with my car again.

I bought my car from Teesside last April and had an awful experience :(
A real let down to Audi really. I got the feeling that because I was from Northern Ireland they wanted me in the showroom and away in the car as soon as possible and I couldnt come back and complain etc.
I know its a bit off topic but my rage for them is so bad that I had to mention it.

Hi Chris
You needed to get it off you chest, just like me and hope other people read and make an enlightened judgement on to use or not to use this dealership. This is what this type of forum is all about. I'm sure the dealers also read these forums.

something like that concerning an mot item should be dealt with by contacting vosa. the details are on the mot paperwork. if something fails when there is clearly no reason to fail it, vosa can contact the garage concerned. they can also send their own vehicles for an mot with known faults to see how the tester performs. if they did that to a vosa vehicle, then their mot licence would be in jeopardy.

I wonder why it state's free MOT for life. You ain't read this thread through have you. I would happily pay for a MOT that is conducted within VOSA guidelines and if what you are saying is true, because it's a free MOT, dealers have a right to rip me off. I don't think so mate.

Yes I have read it through and I can’t explain directly what I mean as they may get grumpy with me and I can’t be doing with it, so I will unsubscribe from this thread before I get embroiled in yet another row with someone on this forum, I can’t be *****!

I'm currently on the VOSA web site and will complain but as stated in previous posts the failure was due to leakage from gaiters which is a failure item, the technician did not put that down on the MOT fail cert he wrote split gaiters. I'm still in discussion with Teesside Audi so will post any outcome as soon as I'm satisfied that my complaint has been fully investigated.

the problem with the new computerised mot system is that the tester has to choose from a list as to why he has failed the car. there may not be 'leaking cv gator', in which case he has to choose the next best thing. in the old way, he could actually write on the fail form exactly what was wrong, but this new system does often lead to confusion. and as you say, if the gators are covered in grease, the tester cannot clean them to examine them properly, so has to presume they are split somewhere even though they may not be. the owner then has to decide what to do, whether to inspect, clean and reseal, or entrust the job to a garage who may fit new gators, or clean them etc, ready for a retest. cv gators however should not be covered in grease and this was obviously missed at last service, or happened since, but is a reason for mot failure. so the tester at teeside audi obviously did his job properly, and i feel this is the view vosa would take.

Yes, thats why i'm still in discussion with the dealer and why VOSA will concur with what you say. The current MOT system has manual interaction so the technician has a choice. I'm not totally sure of the wording but he has 2 options, with that in mind the technician who will have seen split and badly positioned gaitors hundreds of times should know the criteria. I know the difference between these faults as a guy who is keen on the mechanics of cars. The same dealer missed a badly worn CV joint in the cars 2009 MOT. The car is my wifes and she travels on motorways on a regular basis and dread to think what may have happened if that CV joint failed at motorway speeds. It also stated badly pitted front discs that had been changed out 4 months prior to the MOT. This I highlighted at the time to the service manager, so in 2010 this rip off is still going on and want the give anyone who visits this forum an informed view of this dealer. In the proceeding MOT the clips on the gators had been disturbed and needed renewing!!!

disrespectful has one l ;)
that's not really how it works....
We issue the warning
you take it onboard
you alter your behaviour
people have their views in regards to these 'free' MOTs, but are unable to air them due to their relationship with VAG UK.
If you had applied a little common sense before replying, you would have realised that was what Crasher was mentioning.
I would advise you to leave it there.

I tend to take advantage of the free MOT, if they say there are problems I take it around the corner to Phil @ Elite Auto, he used to work for them but gives you an honest opinion and also charges far less. I had an A4 go and Teesside told me there was about £600 worth of work needed doing under ' advisory' category. I took it to Elite and I only needed part of the work doing totalling about £120.

Update on MOT testing at Teesside Audi. It's been a while and need to highlight another wrongly diagnosed MOT failure. This time failure on "near side" CV joint dangerous, I thought I'm sure that was changed out in 2009 but assumed it may have been faulty. Had it checked and guess what...........<removed> managed to get the wrong side, it was the "off side" CV joint but stated on VT30 "near side". So be aware if you take your car to Teesside Audi for MOT you are putting your life's at risk. If they keep sending me MOT reminder, I will keep taking my car as the excuses are now getting rather comical, and when you need a laugh go to Teesside Audi. :D:D

Update;
Colebrook & Burgess phones Friday, who basically said I was privileged to be accepted by his company’s free life time MOT on my car. He stated that I was taking advantage of this as I had not used his dealership to service or maintains my car over the last 4 years. I did point out to him that his company invited me with no conditions to take this offer up and due to a grievance with this company I did not consider this dealership capable of maintaining my car. He did ask again why take my car for an MOT to his company, again I stated he invited me to do so. He then indicated that he has now removed me from the system and I will not be invited to take this free for life MOT offer on my car next year. If a company accepts feedback I have highlighted with a knee jerk reaction to remove the problem and not fix, underlines Colebrook & burgess business ethic.
