Hi all

I still have a rattling RPM gauge. It vibrates and buzzes on rougher roads, but stops instantly when I lightly apply pressure to the area indicated with the arrow.

I've tried stuffing some foam down the side but it hasn't helped. Despite this, anything in contact with the silver trim round the outside stops the buzzing.

Are these deconstructable / serviceable? Anyone got any tips as to how I might be able to stop this annoying buzzing?

Many thanks in advance.

you should be able to get this done under warranty.

you should be able to get this done under warranty.

I know, but I don't trust the dealership to a) put it back together with fewer rattles than it started with and b) not to gouge out holes in the dash with a screwdriver, then deny all responsibility.

Accordingly, I'd like someone to just answer the question if possible. Thanks :).

The silver trim feels like it should just pop off, or am I wrong and it's in fact all one piece?

Could you apply the smallest possible amount of super glue into the arrowed area?

I could try, but that would be a very risky operation.

If the silver bit pops off, I'd rather get it off than trying to squeeze glue into the gap (which is rather small).

I need someone to come along and tell me if the silver trim pops off and if so, how :D.

Try a small blob of bluetak or whitetak. Roll it into a thin sausage about 15mm long and then smear it behind the trim in that area with your finger tip.

Mines not rattling but i know bluetak works well from others having rattling dial trims on other cars.

Ok good tip, never though of that. Thanks.

In case anyone stumbles across this thread with the same problem, the chrome plastic bezel does indeed just pop off. Its held in by clips that are far from firm, so fingernails should be sufficient.

Some blu-tac under the lip, tape / grease around the lugs, and back on...offending item is now quiet as a mouse :D.

Thanks for you help.
