Engine run-on problem

Hi to all at VWAUDI forum, im a new member who is in search of a little help to diagnose a problem with my mates new car. She is an 80 saloon, 1600 carb model from 1986 and the engine runs on for a few seconds after the ignition is turned off. Do you have any suggestions please guys?

timming is probably out, check spark plugs, leads and distributar cap for wear.
