View Full Version : Front Passenger Seat Mechanism

My girlfriend left the front passenger seat folded down/forward over night. I got in to drive to work this morning, pushed the seat to fold it back, but instead of the usual reassuring clunk, I got a thud and the seat popped forward. Basically the mechanism wouldn't engage.
I'm guessing that some sort of catch is either locked open or locked closed.
Does anyone know of a DIY fix for this, or is it going to involve a trip to the garage?
Many thanks.

As I recall the cable that your latch lifts has a spring on it, have a look underneath the seat to make sure all is still fitted correctly. You may have to remove the back cover of the seat to gain visual access to the mechanism, something is most likely to have become dislocated or potentially broken, sometimes the cable can become stretched or brackets get bent due to constantly being slammed and dropped over the years. Simple set up so probably no need to involve a garage

Thanks for the response.
I had a look under the seat (a spot of contortion was necessary, but I got there in the end). And it appears that a catch (next to a spring) won't budge when it comes to engage. I can't get the catch to move - it's well and truly stuck, so I might get a mechanic friend of mine to take a look.
