Hi, I would like some advice if available please....

When I brake average to firmly, there is a fair bit of vibration from the car and I can feel it through the pedal, would this be discs? Passengers can feel it as well as it shakes the body a bit. Nothing when braking gently though.

Also, when on perfect tarmac (rarely!) the road noise is very low, but on rough tarmac above say 50mph, there's a sort of whiny noise. The nearest I can describe it is as if you were blowing over a bottle. I think it's from the rear of the car. Sounds really annoying and intrusive.

Love the car (B6 2006 tdi 140) to bits but these two things are ruining the drive. Advice would be really appreciated.

Have a look at the discs and pads to see if anything looks odd. I think your fault may be either a warped disc or perhaps an abs sensor that is causing the abs to kick in too early. The noise is probably the rear tyres having a saw tooth wear pattern. Have a look to see if they are worn in an odd manner. Do a search on here for rear tyres/noise. You will find lots of info.

You don't say how many miles the car has done, but I doubt very much if it's a 'warped' disc. It might be caused by uneven disc thickness due to a reaction between discs and modern pads. Warping is highly unusual even on racing cars, but if it's not, as Martin says, the ABS playing up, especially as you don't feel anything when braking gently, close inspection of the discs is a must.

Is anything coming back through the steering wheel?

Hi, thanks for feedback, nothing through steering wheel, car has done 51,000 and has stood for 12months. Bit of ruse on discs but off now due toa 200 mile run. When I slow down, the feedback changes as if it's something to do with rotation of the wheels getting slower. just checked tyres, look quite new with even wear!

Aha! Actually I was incorrect earlier, there is a little wobbling/feedback through the steering wheel when braking. How much did you pay for yours? All 4 or just the front two?
