Try this...

Turn off the ignition
Press & hold the button on the left side of the display while turning the ignition on
Service OIL will be displayed
Pull out the button on the right side until the service prompt is cleared
The display should now read ---

If this does not work, try:-
With the ignition off, push the right button
Turn the ignition on and then pull the left button

If it's the Service INSP that is up, I think you need to either press or turn one of the buttons to toggle between OIL & INSP, sorry I can't remember exactly which.

Hope this helps

Sorry das booted, I'm new to this forum and assumed you were asking about an A4...

I did find this though for the Passat, hopefully this helps.

With Ignition off,
Hold the right trip button on the instrument display,
Turn ignition on.
Should display "service maint" not flashing
While still holding the trip button turn the left hand button to the right.
Release everything and turn ignition off.

Hopefully this helps

Use your Right hand to hold in the trip odometer reset button, with the ignition off.
Next, turn the ignition on while still holding in the trip reset button
When ignition lights are on, and reset button is till being held, turn the clock adjust knob clockwise.

the above should work.

At least, it did on mine when it came up Service now. Follow my instructions on your thread on uk passats.
