Mk4 Golf 1.4.
My daughter cleaned her car with doors open and radio on, it took her ages and she flattened the battery.
We tried jump starting it, but failed.
Engine won't start, engine fires for literally a second and stops.
There is a warning light on the dashboard for a vehicle with a key under neath.
Is this an immobilizer warning?
How can it be reset/disabled?

Sounds like you've got a dud battery - it should last longer than that if fully charged. Try charging it off the car, at least overnight and see how you go. If that doesn't work perhaps you can try a good battery off another car and see if it runs. If it does you'll need a new battery. When the immobiliser kicks in and stops the engine, it's usually after running for longer than a second.

Tried charging the battery overnight yesterday with no luck.
Have tried another battery from my car (an almost new one) but still the same problems.

Sounds like you need to get it reset with vag-com, sorry can't help you there. Maybe someone else?

That is unfortunate but every so often this does happen. Make sure the battery is fully charged and leave the car with the ignition on for about an hour, it may recover. Do not leave the car unattended whilst doing this. If it does not recover, the instrument panel will need re-matching to the engine ECU which is not too difficult for someone with the correct equipment.

I'm base in Croydon, Surrey.
I will recharge the battery and try the 1 hour ignition fix.
Thanks very much everyone.
