yes. get the scirocco. you obviously dont need a large car anymore and its about time for a change to a sporty coupe with excellent fuel efficiency.

If you don't need the Passat, get what you do - Me, if I didn't need a family type car, I'd have a Scirocco in a heartbeat :)

Same here :(:( I have seen 5 of them today and they look cool :D:D.

4 in white and 1 in a gorgeous blue colour.

:Blush2::Blush2::Blush2: Mrs Rappy is considering trading her 3 yr old Citroen C4 coupe vtr plus in for one. Only issue is the engine size :( she had a 1.6 diesel with amazing fuel economy and cheap tax. Dont get me wrong the c4 is a great car but she likes and wants a vw :approve::approve:.

What age is your Passat? Bet their offer wasn't as much as you'd hoped! Incidentally I think £28k for a Scirocco is an awful lot of money. By comparison I paid £17,700 for my 2.0 SE tdi Passat Saloon with metallic paint and 17" Le Mans alloys brand new Dec 2005. If I had £28k to spend I'd be getting a big fat Audi A6!

though i'd never have 28k to spend on a car (the wife wouldn't let that happen!) a nice mint condition, lowish mileage E46 M3 would be my car of choice...

right, i'll stop dreaming now....

I like the Scirocco, don't get me wrong, but not to the tune of 28 grand..

The £28,294 looks like list price to me. In fact, playing with the on-line configurator for your spec I couldn't even get it that high, best I could manage was £27.6k.

You shouldn't expect to be paying list price anytime this side of hell freezing over. If your dealer is playing silly beggars, pick up the phone and spend an hour saving at least 10% off list. It's only on stuff like the newly released R where they will all try and hold out for what it says in the brochure.

To find out what your old car is worth at trade in, get a free Glass's valuation by looking at Vauxhall.co.uk in the Finance section. It doesn't factor in extras like leather, but it will give you a worst case idea. Without knowing the precise age of your car, it says that it will be something like £8940 (+ a bit for extras) if in excellent condition as you say. As with list price, if your dealer is low-balling the trade-in value just ring around.

I know some people don't enjoy negotiating, but if you do some internet research, set your position and stick there it is dead easy. I hope I'm not teaching my granny how to suck eggs here. If so, apologies.

Chears teflon, my passat is a march 06 model,

My Derby VW dealer says there is a deal to be had, but he wouldn't put down in writing as i may use it a against another dealer to get a better deal !,

So Went to Leicester VW on sunday asked salesman there and he say he would only match it pound for pound as i had been alrady quoted at Derby, used car manager is the same one as derby :aargh4:.

Where else can i try now ?? where's the good old fashion fight out between all the dealers gone

You got the standard dealer answers. Don't worry about a written quote, the important thing is to know what you can sell and buy for and keep pushing for those numbers. If you show a dealer quote, his attempt to beat it will be £100 less and a free set of rubber mats.

JTW is right, cast the net further afield. All the VW and Audi dealers in my locality are part of the same organisation, so they all sing the same song. I don't bother with them any more, they are not worthy of my custom. So instead, for the last 3 cars I bought I phoned, faxed and EMailed over a dozen dealers within 100 miles of me, with spec and a very low target price. The best deal was way over on the other coast but the saleman was just too oily and wanted a credit card deposit over the phone. So I went 50 miles away and struck a deal almost as good.

To find out what you can buy for, do an internet search using sites like Drive The Deal and Broadspeed. They tell you the lowest dealer price they can get your car for. With a bit of ringing around you can at least match, if not beat it. If you need a bit of paper in your hand, print it and take it with you!

Try Heron at Newark. They seem pretty fair to me. It shouldn't be too far for you and at least they are in a group of only one...

BTW... a Scirocco would be no good for me .... it would look daft being pushed by my caravan!....:biglaugh:
