Evening all. some advice please. I have 2001 2.0s (AZM) Brilliant Car. 2 Weeks ago i had engine oil, filter and fuel filter replaced. Then like a plank 2deays later, i stalled the car. This is where the problem starts.

I couldnt get the car to restart. The engine was rotating, but wouldnt fire. When it did eventually fire, the idle revs plumeted, and bucket fulls of black smoke (smelt like petrol) was streaming from the exhaust.

I got the car to where i work (imk in the motor trade) and there is no sign of leaks from the ndew fuel filter. The car has been struggling to start on and ofcf for the past two weeks.

When it is running, i have noticed the temperature gauge is up and down like a yo yo. If i turn the engine off, and restart, the temp gauge shows 90oc. The minute i drive away, it shoots back down again. I have changed the temperature sensor, to no avail.

It has been suggested i replace the thermostate. At no point as the ECU light come on.

Any advice would be great.

Have you done a fault code read?

yes. No fault codes present. One of the technicians i work with(not VW) believes that the cold start is not kicking in. What ever that is.

could this be anything to do with new fuel filter. all gauges are fine except the temperature.

and does the temp sensor control cold starting?
