clunk from engine

when im out driving in my 2001 passat estate i keep getting a clunk that seems to be coming from engine you can hear it from drivers footwell direction it seems to happen when im taking off at traffic lights more but can also hear it on gear changes , would this be engine mountain if so is it hard to replace thanx mark
