Hi all. We have a 2006 A4 convertible. The other day, I went to raise the storage box and there was a crunch and the handle just moved from side to side without raising / lowering the box.
Anyone know if this is an easy fix / common problem? Feels like it is a fairly weak plastic mechanism to me.
Just wanted a bit of advise before I go stripping the thing to get at it.
Thanks
Alex

Hi Alex, I have the same fault on my 2004 A4 cab, did you find a solution?
The Audi dealer quoted $550 for renewing the mechanism!!
Thanks

Hi Dave.
I took the back end off to get at the mechanism and the plastic lug that holds the cable in place had broken off. I found some kind of clip in my tool box that worked as a temporary measure but it broke again two days ago...
I will have another look at the weekend and note the part number that needs replacing and get back to you. It can't cost $550!!!

Happy New Year to thewoZa
Did you make any progress with the storage box mechanism?
The Audi part catalogue puts the whole mechanism )including the board) together at £330 - then Audi garage wants £200 fitting - so yes it does cost that!!

Thanks for that swift reply sweenep and the link but we are discussing the roof storage box not the glove box.

Hi. Sorry for not getting back sooner.
I have had the back off the mechanism and the lug that holds the cable in place has snapped off. This means that the out cable gets pulled rather than the inner wire that operates the mechanism - hence nothing happens.
Really easy to remove - only 4 bolts - you will need a star bit to get them undone though.
I have hot glued it back into place so will see if that holds it. Below images show broken lug. Part no of this piece is 8H0 863 491. Not phoned Audi yet for a price as hoping the glue repair may work.

I dyed the same problem and I have solved it Removing the two pulleys Pick up the cable with the help of the UN tutorial I found on YouTube.
Following the tutorial is very easy to disassemble and assemble. Save me € 500.
It's really easy to fix the problem with that tutorial.

It is not necessary to buy the pieces 8h0863491. In most cases it is repairable.
