Hood latch not operating/Central Locking Issues

I've got a B4 1996 Audi Cabrio and the central door locking is not working and the button on the door pillar that operates the latches for the opening of the hood panel to stow the manual roof. Is this all linked to the central door locking? Could it be the central locking vacum pump? Or does anybody know why the central locking is not working?

check for broken wires in the boot opening as these fail
