There is fuel leaking from one bank of my V6 2.5 TDI engine where the spill pipes connect so I have renewed them including the one leading to what seems a small in line filter.I am told that there is no pressure in these pipes so I wonder if this is common in an engine which has done 100k miles or if there could be ablockage causing pressure and the leaks .The other bank shows slight signs of the same but I will leave them until this side is sorted. My sons 2.5 same age shows no sign of any leaks on either side.

i would consider 100k to be good value for the life of those small pipes,
(only guessing but plastic/rubber,which will harden/crack over time)
if they are as i've said plastic/rubber,they will be easily changed after buying a length of hose from any auto/ diesel outlet.
these pipes carry the surplus fuel, not being used by the injectors, back to
either the tank or the inlet side of delivery pump.
your sons pipes may not be carrying as much fuel if his foot is heavier and the injectors are taking all that can be supplied:biglaugh:
fair wear and tear i would say,

Stw,
Mine do this (same engine)- they never used to until i rebuilt the engine 0 ive since replaced all the rubber hose, bolts and the copper washers, and still get a slight leak - its been like this for about 8months (since replacing all the bits) and has no adverse affect on the car.
We also have a company car with same engine and this is the same :)

Thanks for this I just dont like strange leaks and my wife hates any smell of diesel which is why we stuck to petrol for 40 yrs until 2009.Also I wondered what the plastic fitting was and whether it could be causing a build up of pressure if it was blocked. Is it a filter or a nonreturn valve? Could it help to renew this?
