any chance a remap on an ageing passat can cause the turbo vanes to enter sections on the vanes face covered in soot and therefore make the vanes stick due to increase in turbo pressure pulling the vanes further where they never been before ???

Hiya mate,
No, when your Turbo's on boost it will be reaching it's max anyway, if your having probs with soot/coke build up, either strip and clean turbo or try spraying some carb cleaner into intake when ticking over, does clear crap out if it's not built up too much..:)

thanks for an answer - seems to be differing views on this then , the guy that mapped mine says the vanes and actuator are taken to new limits and enter soot/carbon build up - now he wants to fit a recon turbo at £850, the carb cleaner idea is a no go as the vane ring is at the exhaust side of the turbo and hardly any would of the spray would even touch it . he also informs me cleaning the turbo out is pointless as it will stick again within months. :zx11:. he also says returning the map back to standard wont make any difference either. All i hear is a cash register opening :D

Hmm, sounds like a cash till!! :)
If your handy with spanners then I would def take the turbo off and strip/clean it first, I have done it before and as long as build up isn't too bad then it's worth doing.
A recon turbo should als be cheaper than his quote as well, fitted..:beerchug:

tried that a while ago , had it all apart but couldnt get enough room to back the manifold off , i guess you have to remove an engine mount to tilt the engine to make room . ??? plus the oil cooler pipe to turbo snapped and i had to replace it , which was a job in itself - i have some innotec turbo clean on its way and new silicon for vacuum pipes , thinking now its the n75 valve at fault or a possible air leak ,( with the aid of martin 1810 on this forum) .

Hi,
Can't even get your website to quote for my Passat TDI 130 - it's only showing the 100 hp version in the B5 category.

Hi mate,
What year is your Passat?
I think I need to get it updated as it should list all the variants.
Gains on your model are 45bhp/80nm torque..:)

Hi Steve - it's 2003. Though it's going to depend on how much VW charge to sort out my leaky plenum chamber!

Hiya mate,
No prob, excellent engine to remap the 130..
I had a guy ring me yesterday though to see if I could take his modified map off that he had done the day before by someone he can no longer get hold off as it's killing his clutch.
Apparently he mapped his passat cheaply! then didnt give him a number/receipt, nothing. and he took all of 10 mins to do his car. seems like he loaded a crap generic map on and wasn't coming back to rectify it as cannot be got on the phone now..
People like him that spoil it for the likes of Ben at Shark and me and other good Tuners on here..
