Do you recognise this problem?
I have an 06 reg Passat 2.0 TDi 140PS SE diesel Estate that I bought at 11k miles which has been generally OK.
It has now reached 56k . ( I have issues using the the park brake on hill starts but that is a story for a different time and forum line!)
When I first received the car there was a feature available to auto shut all the windows. In summer ( remember those?) it was usefull.
I found that, over night, the vehicle had lowered the windows on two occasions with no input from me at all! Not good from a security viewpoint!.
After the second time and KNEW it was not my error, I returned it to the dealer who disabled the facility to auto shut the windows.
This was explained to me as a temporary fix while VW developed a software download to overcome the inadvertant window lowering issue.
This has not happened and now the car is out of warranty. My question is has anyone else found this issue? It can't be just my car.?
Also, if you have the feature enabled on your vehicle, be aware of the risk to "overnight window lowering syndrome". It might save you loosing your contents!
As I understand it, the issue is the effect of reducing temperature overnight affects the density/volume of air inside the car and changes the alarm volumetric sensor.

My windows opened "on their own" too but I was convinced I must have sat on my remote (Pressing and holding the unlock button will open all the windows until you release)

Using VCDS I disabled the opening of the windows with the remote (I don't see much of a use for it) but kept the closing of the windows with the remote.

I know this doesn't answer your question but at least you get the auto closing function back.

Yes, something simalar. With mine it was a case of allowing the auto-wind up to do its thing but once the window was at the top it immediatly wound itself all the way down again, only happened on the near side front window though. First time it was fixed under warrantee, second time I got it to the garage, they repeated it once, plugged the computer in to try it again and it 'fixed itself'.
I have a feeling that it was related to the remote control open window feature I was using in the summer (i.e. keep the unlock key pressed to lower all windows).

There have been quite a few threads on this one, and the usual suggestion is that it's caused accidentally by the key being pressed and held down while in the pocket or whatever.

I think most people who've asked the question seem to find that explanation satisfactory, but whether there's another actual fault in some vehicles is another matter.

It happened to me once and pressing the button was certainly plausible - I was in a filling station at the time - but it's never happened again, so it's not a thing I ever gave much thought to again :o

This happened to me the night of heavy snow. I found that as I lent against the kitchen sink it was opening the window via holding the open bottom on the key fob.

The only reason I realised this was because I have the conformation lock beep activated. The car was parked beside the window one night while I was at the sink and I could hear it locking!

Never had it with my 2006 passat est 2.0 (yet) BUT in previous cars had similar weird things happening. Had a Rover 800 once with the auto window & sunroof close & open function that would sometimes do exactly that - open the windows for no apparent reason after definetlely being properly closed & locked up. Also had a 2.6 V6 Omega that liked to unlock itself from time to time, did doubt myself at first but after happening a couple of times was certain it was the car. A friend had the same model as me at the same time I had one and his was ransacked even though he was certain he had locked it. I have also come back to the Omega to find one rear window completely down even though I had left it closed.Never got to the bottom of any of these events and I just put it down to gremlins in over complicated electronics! Maybe I am too laid back though!
