i have lost my turbo completely now , even turning the ignition off momentererally does nothing - any ideas where to begin .

You have to start with a code read to find out if you have high or low pressure fault codes or even no fault codes.

i got some innotec turbo clean on its way £ 40 for the 3 stage treatment . turbo is back to working intermittent ,which sugests the vanes are freeing up again .

one question for the gurus though , when the turbo is working and boosting i take it the actuator arm is pulled down and then its upto the actuator to bring it back up . thus when the vanes stick the arm is jammed down and the actuator cant pull it back up . ????????????????? is this correct .

Actuator lifts the vanes into the boost position. When vacuum is released the arm drops to give minimum boost

based on this then if the vanes stick ,where in relation to this will the arm be , as im being told by the bloke that mapped my car the actuator isnt strong enough to return the vanes

The vacuum lifts the arm to give boost and spring lifts it back to the low boost position. If you have no boost then vanes are not stuck in the open position. You can lift the hose off the actuator and it should drop back.

thats what it does when it enters limp mode, the arm is still in the up postiion - this is getting all so confusing :zx11:

Get someone to start the car while you watch the actuator. On start up it should move about 20mm. Then tell them switch off, it should now fall back. If it doesn't then you may have an actuator fault or turbo vane fault or still got a vacuum leak. To test the actuator, stick a bit of spare pipe on it and suck hard. This should move the actuator. If it doesn't it may not be working. To be honest it is not worth checking much of this until you know if you have underboost or overboost.

hi martin, i had test done , code 17965 was the result.

So you have too much boost and it causes it to drop into limp mode. Very high probability that you need to take turbo off and clean the vanes by hand.

Going into limp mode on over boost does not always mean that turbo vanes are stuck. mine does it about twice a week and i stripped turbo and nothing was wrong ie it was clean. It can be various other factors. I just dip the clutch, turn off / on the ignition and lift the cluch again to reset the boost. If it does it all the time then it could be the air flow sensor. mine did it all the time about three years ago and eventualy found a slug of oily water in one of the small air lines.
