Evening all,

I am in the process of negotiating the purchase of a 55 S4 Manual, with around 85K on the clock.

Couple of things,

Although a little high on the miles, it will only be a weekend car so im not too bothered, however, are there anythings i should look out for? It has a full service history stamped up to date. When i drove it, the gear shift didnt seem super smooth as i expected (although this is the first time i had driven a manual).

Glove box lid broken.... i have read the "how to" on here but, this one has the cool box with a door. Is it the same procedure to replace the assembly or will i be able to just replace the main door?

For some reason, the drivers door seems to catch as its being closed, as if its dropped. Is this a common problem? all the gaps are parallel and panels are dead straight.

Again, somehow the bonnet stay wont hold up the bonnet. IS this a sign thats its been opened more than normal, or, again, is it a fairly common prob?

One last thing!! It has at some stage had the original wheels replaced with 19" RS4 wheels, which to be honest, to me, makes the car look a little aggressive, as they are silver/black in colour.

Does anyone know of anywhere that may stock the originals, or even similar after market 18" wheels?

Sorry about all the q's but you chaps seemed like you know what you are talking about!!!!

Any pointers or advice would be much appreciated!

Might be worth getting a check done on the car to make sure it as not been involved in a accident or anything, could be why the door and bonnet don't close as they should, as for the wheel's am sure you could put some some pictures on here and find sombody that will swop you :drive:

I agree. There's something not normal here and I'd be most concerned. Before buying ensure you have it checked by a qualified mechanic. It hints towards being involved in some sort of collision.

Thanks for that.

I have crawled over the front end like a rash and everything seems in order, grime around fittings, no overspray, so i dont think its had front end damage.

Its the door that im unsure of.

I have enclosed a pic, and if you zoom in on the silver trims at the bottom of the front and rear doors, they dont line up exactly and this become apparent when closing the door.

The hinges look good, and the catch on the b pillar looks unmoved:

It's most likely had a new door, or the doors been off. Call the Audi garage who have serviced it through it's life. If it was done by an approved Audi body shop or a dealer with body shop they might have a record of the repair.

My car is a B7 in the very same colour as yours, and ironically the drivers door is also slightly dropped and thus snags on the trim a tiny amount.

The servicing dealer confirmed that it had a completely new door at some stage, but the paintwork done is immaculate, I still can't see it's been painted! Very unusual for body work repairs!

Well, thanks for al the info, however, i did an HPi check last night and it turns out the car has been clocked:mad:

Shows 84K and looks like its done over 100K, according to the report.

I have never really bothered with these sort of things before, but, as i was spending a lot of money, i thought i would do one, also out of curiosity!!

So, NEVER buy an expensive car without doing one.

Yeah, it was 20 quid, but that has saved me a lot of aggro.

So, now im on the look out for another, albeit not very local to me.

GET YOUR HPi'S DONE!!

Well done Jason, you've saved yourself a lot of future hassle and money there, I just had a feeling there was something not quite right about this car. And if somebody is prepared to clock the car it makes you wonder what other devious things they have also done - ********! It just shows to check every avenue, especially when something doesn't quite look right. I'm sure you'll find your dream car soon.
