View Full Version : Central Locking on rear passenger door

Hey guys,

I have a 2002 tdi 130 Sport. The problem is that the rear passenger door is dead locked and will not open from either the key fob, with the key in the door or the main unlocking switch on the drivers door. The electric window will not work either (on this door only)

I have checked the fuses and they are fine. I even took all the relevant electric window fuses out yet the the windows still worked?

I have checked the CCU for any obvious damage to the wires etc or for water damage but the carpet and the floor were bone dry.

Although I have searched through this excellent forum and found a load of advice with regards to this seemingly common problem, there doesn't seem to be any idea in opening the door when it is dead locked and the window won't go down!

Also, when the drivers door is open the car won't recognise this. The 'door open' symbol on the dash doesn't light up, the interior light won't come on and the car will lock itself. Would this maybe part of the problem?

Any advise on how to open the door when it is dead locked to enable me to check the wire inside would be very gratefully received!

I would check the ccm wiring again. Unwrap the wires and check any earths nearby. You can sometimes undo the door by thumping it constantly near the lock whilst operating the key fob. If that doesn't work you have to strip the door whilst it's in place. Not fun.

Thanks for the response Martin. This is obviously a common problem. As my father in law also drives a Passat (although he hasn't had this problem as of yet:approve:) he has been researching various forums too.

One of the fixes he had come across is to disconnect the battery and hold the two terminals together for 30 seconds. Apparently this resets the factory settings. Anyway, I duly did this last night but to no avail. However, when I unlocked the car this morning, lo and behold didn't the rear unlock! This also meant that the electric window is also operating properly!

However, the door open warning symbol on the dash is not coming on for either the rear passenger door nor the drivers door. Having read elsewhere that this likely the microswitch that is located in the driver's door lock it looks like I am going to have to check that.

Fortunately a local Audi garage owes me a favour (my wife drives a new A3) so they said they would run a diagnostic on it for me.

Hopefully this might tell me where the problem is.

I'll keep you posted!

Had the same problem with my 2002 passat sport, rear door still not working properly! The best way I found to open the rear door was to be sat in the car and constantly keep activating the door release button on the drivers door console while activating the interior rear door handle. In the end (about 5 mins) the door unlocked. Have to do this now and again still, but only after bad rain! Hope this helps.
