Burglars who turned over my flat have stolen my spare key fob/transponder to my 2000 Audi A3 Sport Turbo. Luckily the car was not at home during the burglary so they couldn't nick it. But what do I need to do to prevent them coming back and using the stolen fob to locate the car and then steal it? I have fitted a Disklock to the the steering wheel (Thatcham Approved) as a deterrent and parked the car a few streets away. Do I need to change all the locks and start again with two new fobs and if so, can this only be done by Audi? Incidentally, the thieves stole the car's handbook too - presumably there is info in it specific to my car such as keycode numbers etc? Help! I can't imagine what Audi would charge just for the parts, let alone fitting them. Is there any reasonably priced solution to this problem which can be dealt with by a competent mechanic?!!

simply delete and recode the remaining keys to the immo and then delete the remotes and recode. The only entry then could be made via the door barrel but the engine will not start and the alarm will trigger.

Get the car to an Audi dealer, VAG Specialist or key specialist and get the keys re-chipped. This way the key will still open the door but the car will not start. Check your house insurance; they may even cover you for all new locks to be fitted which is a costly operation. In the meantime get the car away from your home and immobilised with a steering wheel lock until it is sorted out. Many of my customers have lost cars like this by not getting the car away for when the evil little ******** return to ruin your day for a second time.

why not just park the car in your driveway and get some of your nastiest friends over to keep a look out for them. this way you could get your keys back and get rid of some scum as well.

Thanks for your help everyone. I couldn't publish my thoughts about what I'd like to do to the creep who turned over the flat. Any further advice about replacing the door, boot and ignition locks would be appreciated. Could I do this myself, or is the ignition lock a swine to replace? I could then get the immobiliser fob(s) re-programmed, rendering the stolen keyfob useless?

lock set isnt cheap .If you recode the existing keys then the stolen keys are worthless, then fit a second hand lock set to the door/tailgate to prevent access.
