Hi
Is there a sticky or How To on the lower dash trim removal under the steering wheel? Got to fit a brake pedal switch tomorrow and i'm not sure I can squeeze my bulk into the footwell without removing the trim!
Got the 1K2 945 511 switch so as far as I understand easy fit/no pushing down the brake pedal required during fitting.
I've done a search but came up with nothing. (May be my rubbish search skills lol..)
Many thanks

Very easy, gets easier the more you do it.
Open door and carefully prise off fusebox cover (there's a hole to stick a screwdriver into). In there are two torx bolts.
Another torx bolt is in the loose change tray on the left hand side, and a final one is in the instruction book holder at the extreme left. Once these are removed, carefully wiggle the panel until it drops down, then pull forwards. Whole lot comes out in one piece.
Refitting is the reverse of removal, but make sure the end is inserted in the white plastic clip and take your time lining things up. Firm pressure helps it click into place around the steering wheel.
I dismantled mine to chance the brake switch only to find VW had sold a faulty switch (the new kind like yours that goes straight in), but fortunately I didn't break the old one taking it out and (touch wood!) a quick spray of contact cleaner and it's been fine. I also forgot to reconnect the lead so had to dismantle it again, it's honestly only a 5 minute job once you've done it once.
Cheers,
Dave.

Many many thanks - had found the fuse box 2 and the change tray. The 4th was becoming hard to find..:zx11:
Any need to disconnect any electrics at all...?

No. Just leave the ignition off. That way you can test it without reassembling the dash.

Job done, no way i'd have got to that switch without taking the lower dash trim off!
New switch is easy, just push home and twist into place.
Lights working again and all warning lights off :beerchug:
