I have only last week bought a passat 20tdi 140 with 80k under its belt.

Once i got the car home and drove a little quicker than i did on the test drive i could feel a judder through the whole car around 60 onwards but could almost feel this building up to be pretty violent. I naturally assumed the wheels/tyres were to blame and treated myself to a set of replica rs8 alloys 19 inch.

This however seems to have escalated the judder. The car has been to a friends mot centre where no faults could be identified and has just come back from the local dealers where i bought it from, Again No fault was found They are blaming the wheels. I unfortunately sold the standard set so cant prove that the wheels Unless i am really unlucky are to blame. I now have a car under warranty that apparently has no problems and need some help. I do have a cheap obd fault scanner that reads no faults is this a common problem.

I'd take it to VW and get them to check it over - they should really know the car inside out if anyone!

I've not seen a post on here relating to this problem, perhaps a wheel/tyre specialist could check these over too..

Did it have this problem with the original wheels ?

It depends what you mean by judder. Wheels and tyres can produce vibrations, they can't cause a judder.

Firstly thanks for the replies. The judder/vibration is felt through the whole car and feels more like a judder than a wheel vibration, this feels like the whole car is kinda wobbling I cant describe the feeling any other way.
It does shake the excess flab about abit though :Blush2: I shall be taking the wheels to be re-balanced in the morning although i know the problem was there before these new alloys were fitted :1zhelp:

Hi hulmey, i had a judder coming from my golf when driving over 60mph last year and took it to my local VW garage who checked it over and found it to be three small bolts missing from the protective tray underneath the car engine.
The garage i had it serviced at obviously forgot to put them back in from the oilchange (service).
I know you say you have had it checked at a garage but it might be worth while checking to see if any are missing.Hope this helps.

Firstly thanks for the help I took the advice and took it to vw where it underwent a full diagnostics and a wash and hoover all for free :biglaugh:
To find out the new wheels i bought are terribly unbalanced and there is pretty bad run out ? on one of the tyres causing the unbalance and shaking So now i have a new battle to fight and it seems that i may have to buy new tyres. :aargh4:
