Hi
Just wonder if this is normal I have passat 2003 1.9TDI 100BHP standard spec and I get 33MPG getiing to work, 7.8 miles is town driving with not to many stop start and 5.2 miles is just straight road at 50 MPH I converted MPG to L/KM and it is 8.5l to 100KM or 60 Miles, I got a friend who drive the same route in his BMW 330 petrol and got the same readings it looks a bit poor for diesel or is just me

The only way to get a clue about a possible problem is to have a full diagnostic check that looks at the actual sensor outputs, not just a code read.
I have found that from cold and mainly town driving and a short run, that economy is around the 30-40mpg mark and I run the same 100bhp PD engine.
I know the car runs spot on because on my run to school (45 miles) I average 50-52 mpg all day everyday so it is just the combination of stop start town driving from cold which drags the economy down.
Is this a figure from the computer or from your own calculations?

the figure is from my own calculation the computer on car showing around 38-40 mpg but thats just not right, is just a feeling that every week I do the same miles but every week by week I'm getting less for £20 if you know what I mean.

Weather is very cold at present but it seems more in-line with my 130 petrol. I do about 8 miles motorway and 3 on the road. The congestion varies with the time (on flex) I go. Low 30's on the trip but about 29/30 in reality.

Hi, got my 130 tdi tuesday. Had a run yesterday to Malvern from Stafford...M6/M5, bit of tootling around the hills then a 3 hour stop start grind up the A449 through rush hour to Stafford.
Computer reckons average 49mpg. Is this about right? If so I'm well chuffed.
Car is just over 4 years with 42k and in good nick so this may be a factor?

Good luck with that, there does seem to be a problem.
I take it there is definitely no signs of a leak?

I would expect minimum 50 out of my 110bhp passat estate but probably between 55 and 60. I have chipped here though and if you careful you can get 65+ cruising between 50 and 70mph
seems very low
It's not low for town driving.
You will never get 50mpg out of a car if you drive around town with constant stop/starts.

On an average taxi shift of around 120 miles in a city and 60 miles out of the city I always average between 41 and 44mpg.
The car is running for a solid 10-12 hours even when I'm sat waiting. Esp' in this weather lol.

the guy said combined basically so I would expect an easy 50! 55 in mine since I chipped it. Its amazing, its loaded with stuff! maybe its momentum lol Had a verified 67 on a trip back from sheffield!

i drive from pontefract to manchester and back on my work days in my passat 190 tdi and average 50 to 55 mpg most times, but it`s nearly all m/way driving at 70mph,i`ve had it 7years and it`s done 98000 miles now, still running perfectly :beerchug:
