Well done Audi, the first car to tell me exactly which bulb had gone on the DIS.

Not good Audi, I had to remove the whole light and lots of screws to get at the bulb.

No you didn't !!

You could have paid Audi through nose to do it for you :D

Er... in my B6, with two blown bulbs in my four years of ownership (and I always loved the fact it told me which) I had Audi do it for free... in fact, I never expected to pay and I'd probably have been surprised if I'd ever been asked.

This is not normal?

You can change bulbs without removing the unit, although it is a fiddly job.

How?, there is no access to the bulbs from the inside of the car

I assumed you were trying to get at a halogen headlamp H7 bulb?

If so, just remove the dust caps at the back of the unit and you can access the bulb and connector. OK, there's hardly any room to get your hand in, especially on the nearside, but it is possible.

The "fiddly bit" is exact re-alignment of the replacement bulb.

Sorry, it was a rear brake.

For those who would like to know
1. Remove internal panel in boot, watch out for the Sat nav / amp if you have one
2. Remove insulation/soundproofing then unscrew locking bolt for the light
3. Carefully remove whole light and unplug power
4. Unscrew 3 more screws to gain access inside the light to the bulbs
5. Repeat in reverse order to get back to where you started.

Previous VW's and Ford's you just reached in removed a craddle with the bulbs and hey presto.
