My Golf Mk4 TDI's lights have started pulsing with the sound of the engine idling rough however rev counter stays pretty steady. putting a multimeter across the battery whilst ignition is off gives a reading of 12.4v and between 15.3v and 14.8v whilst idling with nothing else but ignition on. I also get a relay on drivers side dash giving me morse code quite often. Whilst running idle if i turn all toys on the engine struggles to stay idling. Whilst engine breaking the car feels funny and quite juddery. Can anybody shed some light? thanks in advance

thanks for the feedback Wilfy, pleased you got it sorted, although a regulator for the alternator may have cured it,( have just seen your thread, and hindsite is something we should all have),
crasher may be able to help with relay problem i'm sure.
take care,

Thanks Stewie
Well it is an original alternator that has done 160k miles so I thought it was better to replace than to mend.
Thanks again
