Hi all. I pick up my passat next week. I have a 3 month warranty on the car. It has covererd around 50,000 miles and its a 55 plate late Nov 05.

Just curious. As I have been reading a few threads about warranty and oil use.

Would anyone suggest I buy an extended warranty? Which is the best value etc....

Also what oil should my passat use? Its a 2.0 tdi with dsg.

Many Thanks,

Rappy.

Any oil that says VW spec 507.00. A lot of common passat problems are often not covered under a warranty. You need to read the small print carefully.

Thanks for that how much per litre? Can you buy from G.S.F? Or has it got to be main dealer?

Any advise on what should be purchased only from main dealer or can you do it on the cheap?

Hi rapport,
I have a Dec 05 2.0 TDi on 28k, and i have covered 12k miles in 12 months.

It hasn't even used a litre of oil, and i bought the GTX magnatec in Halfords, 5L for 39.95.
It says in the manual which grade you need for your passat, just check whether you need fully synthetic or not depending on your engine.

In terms of the warranty, i had the VW one till last week, (came with the car for 12 months), and have just bought a warranty from warranty direct

They have a good website, and once you have filled in a online application, they call you and tailor the warranty to your vehicle / requirements, and give you a new price too.
Mine was Full cover with servicing at VW only for £384.

Hope that helps

Hi Eurpoa,

Thanks for that. I have heard that vw's drink oil. Pleased to hear that may not be the case. Changing from my 10 yr old peugeot 406 I have covered nearlt 200,000 miles. Sorry to see it go. I hope the passat is an excellent car

As for the waranty i guess thats for 12 months? And does that include vw servicing it?

How many miles do the passats go before a service short and full?

Many Thanks Rappy

Re Warranty Direct, there are a number of threads on here dissing them big time. In short, allegedly happy to take your money but keen on finding a small print clause to avoid a pay out. The words "pole" and "barge" come to mind.....

May have to check those threads out then, and my 28 day opt-out clause :D

Come to think of it rapport, it's only used about half a litre in 12k, mostly motorway driving.

Service intervals - 2 types. Regular / Long Interval.

I am on long interval, which i believe is around 18k or 18 months.
Car determines condition of oil and indicates on dash i believe (400 miles before)

That warranty doesn't include servicing.

One thing i did note, is that though they didn't tell me in their sales pitch; - in bold on the front page of the policy is that they will not cover you for the first 90 days for any wear or tear failure :(

Overall, the Passat does all the little extra things you want it do, and the build quality in general is good/solid.

AA do a paarts and labour warranty for about £60 a year 5 claims of £500 each allowed, Big catc is you have to call aa patrol out to the car first otherwise warranty void. you seem to get good cover for the cost.As regards oil consumption had my B6 Sport for a year now (done about 10k, mostly around town)and never had to put any oil in.
