Hi guys just bought a 2000 golf gt tdi, lovely to drive and very nippy, just had a full service and the guy brought up a few things...

First when i put my key in the ignition all the dashboard lights come on, abs, plugs, oli etc however befroe i start the car all the lights go out so it is not possible to notice an oli problem when starting the engine. none of the lights come back on while driving? This seems odd to me but as im new to VW just wondered if it is supposed to happen?

also my back windscreen wiper does not work, when i start up the car it makes a buzzing sound as if it is trying to move but always fails, could this relate to my ligfht problem?

any comments would be very appreciated as i love the car and want to put my mind at rest!

cheers, seb :biglaugh:

the lights will go out before cranking if left long enough, which,i agree is not good when changing oil and filter and you want to see the oil light go out, however, the low oil pressure warning will appear if a problem crops up,along with a bleeping sound
which you may have heard lately as the outside temperature dropped to 4c or below.
it ,i believe will also display a warning on the computer screen, something like
"engine workshop" or similar.
as regards the rear wiper,if it's "buzzing" as if to move,it may just be a loose arm
on the spindle,

stewy.

Not sure on the first lol

As for the rear wiper arm - its the plastic gear inside the wiper mechanism which will have worn teeth causing the noise. It wont be related to the light problem but an easy fix. happened to mine a while back, but as i've got the back window tinted anyway i decided to remove the back wiper instead of replacing it.

Hope this helps,

Dave
