Hi all, my rear disks make a very annoying grindin even under the litest of braking. Fronts are new ish but rears seem to be doing the work. Will new rear disks an pads fix it or is there something far more technical to it?
Cheers
Paul

if your rear pads are worn out so the pad backing is hitting the disc, resulting in metal to metal contact then yes, new discs and pads will cure it. if the pads are not worn out, then something else is broken and needs checking out asap. but whichever it is, it needs attending to sooner rather than later.

Thanks for that, will hav a look! Do you know the sizes of the rear disk? Hav been advised to grind the outside of the disk so it's flush again. Sounds possible?? Cheers

not sure of your disc size. if you have a lip on the edge of the disc thats big enough to warrant grinding, then you need new discs. generally a disc can wear about 1mm each side before its below the minimum thickness, and once it gets below that it is in danger of getting too hot and eventually disintegrating when you need it most, usually ending in tears. also change discs if the pad has worn out to the point where it has scored the braking surface, as this rough surface will eat your new pads.

Cheers for that, looks like a new set of rears then. They are far more than 1mm!!! That'll be a nice job for the weekend then. Thakns for your help
