View Full Version : Question Does DSG Mechatronic unit replacement mean the DSG oil is changed

Hi all,

I have a DSG which is having the usual issues but perhaps not has bad as others on here.

I've had the 'software-reset' which sort of worked but the effect of which is slowly wearing off. I hope to push the dealer to replace the Mechatronic unit soon, the warranty expires at the end of 2010.

Does anyone know if the replacement of the Mechatronic unit requires the complete replacement of the DSG oil. I'm about 4,000 miles off the 40k mile DSG oil change interval. My thought process is this - If I push hard on the Mech unit can I save myself the cost of the DSG oil change..?

Any experiences would be appreciated.

You have no input into replacing the mechatronics what so ever. The decision is made by gathering the data from mvb and sw/hw revision, also oil samples and adaptive road test results AND THE TECHNICIAN NOT YOU.Cheeky bugger

Thanks for your help, not quite the answer to the question, but a useful take nonetheless.

I think maybe you touched on one of the points that was also in my thinking (I didn't want to write War & Peace in a post here) that if the DSG oil is changed then it may help the issue.

I did have the oil changed at one point, as a possible fix.

I can't remember whether that was before the mechatronic was replaced, or whether it was between the first and second replacements!

As A8tech says, mechatronic unit change is a VW decision. Entirely out of dealer's hands. My unit was replaced under warranty. To change it the oil has to be drained and replenished with new. The dealer had mine in the workshop for 38 days as the units are prepared at VW specially for the car - and my first replacement was damaged in transit!

Is it not a case of the mech unit needing replaced as a result of oil not being changed... best change early it's not an expensive job.. £140 inc filter at my local Audi specialist dealer

The original question (reworded) was: "Does a Mechatronic unit change necessitate a unit oil change". Answer: Yes!

The unit may well be damaged as a result of not changing the oil at (or before) the scheduled time - but if that is the case don't look for VW to stump up the cost of the replacement!
