Hi all, im looking to buy a mk4 GT TDI 110 on a R reg plate from a local garage.
I took the car for a test drive and I could not fault it apart from the speedo.
It sat at zero apart from when I was accellerating, and when it did move it was fluctuating up and down and reading 60/70mph when I was doing no more than 30mph.
Just wondeing if this sounds like an expensive fix as the dealer said he will knock £100 of the price if I get it fixed my self.
Whats the maximum this realististicly cost? All other electrics/dials/parts of the clocks appeared to work well.
Thanks guys.

hi james - sorry i not able to help you out on the likely costs or cause of the problem but i would say that if this is a dealer, it should be sold without faults.
it may be worth asking him to resolve the problem and remove any worries over potenital repair costs... whilst the speedo problem may be resolved cheaply, it may not... In which case you'll be doing him a favor by taking it off his hands for 100quid off

so the dealer is not putting 12mths MOT on it then--
if he's selling cars with such obvious faults on them,it makes you wonder
what else may be hidden,if not on this car but others in stock.
dash repair is NOT cheap, i don't think £100 would cover it,plus the inconvenience
of not having the car while it's being done.
mk4 golf,plenty around i would have thought,personally,
i'd give this one a miss,

stewy.

I have to agree with stewy l on this one....
is it a reputable dealer?
is he offering to get it fixed if you pay the asking price?
how much is it?
I wonder if someone has had a naughty play with the speedo/odometer.....

For my two-penneth worth, I'd say steer clear. As Stewy says, plenty of Mk4 Golfs around.

I would also stay well clear of this. If its been clocked then, then it'll be worth a LOT less than you'll be paying.

Hi all, just to let you know I got the car after getting it looked over and got the speedo fixed at a local auto electricion for £35 after having £50 knocked off, I was lucky then!
