battery/alternator cordoba 1.4tdi

Battery died while driving in Very cold conditions. All alarms came on (tcs,abs,airbag etc) lights dimmed. Got battery re-charged by auto-elec who said it was fine. but was not getting a re-charge in car. Alternator taken out and worked perfect on bench, but not when put back in car.
p.s. battery light does not come on even before engine start.
Auto-elec has this car now for a week and baffled.
Any help out there ?

if the alternator warning light doesnt come on at all with the ignition on but before you start, that indicates to me that the alternator is faulty.

alternator has been taken off car and tested on bench. works perfect.
Read another similar sorry story re 1.4tdi polo where the fix was
a broken wire coming out of connector box under starter motor. Unfortunately that is not a fix for mine. Still in Auto-elec shop, and not getting any closer to solution. :aargh4:
