my 98 golf gt tdi is only giving me around 25-30 mpg on average.

does any one know how to get it back up to nearer the 40's?

any help/ advise would be appreciated.

I recently hit my wheel against a kurb and bent my wishbone and trackrod end since it has been fixed the mpg has went right down into the 20 mpg region where it used to be in the 40's . I am going to have a wheel alignment done because I think it may be the cause of the low mpg readings I am getting.

Has it had a good service recently?

A dodgy Air Mass Meter can sometimes cause poor mpg.

Does the engine lack power as well? Does it have trouble starting from cold? Just thought I'd ask because my economy's gone down the pan too, but I'm thinking its the fault code on my ECU that may be causing it. HAve you scanned for any fault codes yet?

The wheel alignent should be ok still as ive done it recently and not hit anything since, the MPG has been poor since ive had it really and i have had it serviced a while back.

It has good power and starts and runs fine, im going to be cleaning the inlet manifold and EGR valve soon to see if this improves it.

does anyone know the correct oil type for the AHF engine. its done 180,000 miles and doesnt burn much oil and there isnt much soot out of the back end when on full throttle, so maybe i will try the air mass meter.

thanks for the reply people :biggthump
