lowering springs

Hey all

i've just got my self a set of lowering springs for my Mk 4 golf, im fine with the fitting of the rear springs, but the fronts im a little unsure. looks like the whole hub etc has to come off?

Does any one know of a good how do guide or just give me a little advice?

There is no need to remove the complete hub assembly remove the bolt and nut securing wheel bearing housing to the suspension strut.

Thanks for that, when i've done this is it just a case of knocking the hub down from the strut?

If the right suspension strut is to be removed, additional work is required.Unbolt drive shaft from gearbox flange shaft. otherwise (Both sides) Remove the coupling links from the wishbones and pull the wheel bearing housing downwards off the shock absorber tube.When you remove the bolt insert a spreader in the slot this makes it a bit easier to pull down the housing

How have you got on? I have just put some 17's on mine and it looks like it needs to be dropped an inch or so. Can get the parts for about 60 quid but wondering how much labour is involved in fitting them. How many hours do you think, for a decent mechanic?

Hi Steve,

Mines still on the side lines at min, iv not had the time t get round to doing it my self yet. i asked at a garage too see how much they would charge for labour to fit my springs. they quoted £150 and i wernt willing to pay that. im hoping to get round to it in the next couple of weeks, if the weather decides to stay nice on my days off!!
