I want to do the same thing to mine cos I'm gonna drain the battery in a couple of weeks at this rate. 99% we'll have to go to someone with a vag-com and have it done like that.

Coming home/Leaving home lights. It's a feature other cars would love to have. I find them very useful. But if you don't want them, yes, you'll either need to do it yourself using VCDS/VAG-COM or visit a VW dealer (who will probably charge).

(Not sure if you can do it yourself if your car has the highline computer/MFD. Maybe someone else can confirm that.)

I'm gonna drain the battery in a couple of weeks - I don't think you will unless you are locking /unlocking the doors all the time.

Anyway on my golf if you lock the doors twice, the headlights go off straight away . . . Also, if you 'unlock' 3 times, they go off. Not sure if this uses more power than the lights themselves though!

Takes some getting used to but there are many features you can turn on or off - at a charge. My dad has a newer Mk5 than me and they stay on for less time.
Very handy to find a car in a car park etc, if your forgetful!

It won't flatten the battery if it is intended from new as VW made it.
However I have got through a few headlights bulbs which I can only assume is this is feature hindering it.

I must admit, I adjusted the "Coming Home Delay" to 10 seconds (rather than the original 120 seconds) because this was just too long. It wasn't necessary for my circumstances and just increased the chances of some kind soul telling you that you have left your lights on.

The "Leaving Home Delay" at 120 seconds (the maximum I believe) is fine because it's useful for the car's headlights to light the way back to the car in the dark if the road is muddy, etc.

Finally, I've always thought that a bulb would probably blow more quickly if it was always being turned on and off. However, a friend with more electrical knowledge than I said that vibration was a much bigger problem for bulbs. I have to say, in nearly 6 years I've only had to change one headlight bulb.

How many times 'your lights are on....'

Did you do this time adjustment yourself or get VW to do it?

I did it myself with Ross-Tech's VCDS/Vag-Com.

I believe if you have a highline computer/MFD you can adjust it there.

Failing that, a VW dealer can do it for you but they may well charge.

If you leave the headlight switch in the off possition rather than AUTO, does that disable the comming and leaving lights?

I considered a genuine Micro-CAN interface from Ross Tech for about £150 a good price.

You might be able to find a cheaper re-seller online or pickup a second-hand interface on places like eBay if you look. You may also find a non-genuine interface (not from Ross Tech) which says it will work with the VCDS software but you'll have to take the chance that it will work correctly.

I'm not aware of any other interfaces/software which will allow you to connect to your Mk V Golf and make these kind of changes.
