Only just noticed after 13 months of owning my car that the locking nut socket is missing :(
How do I find out which socket to order for replacement ? I presume they have quite a few different ones ?
Will the chassis number indicate anything if I contact Audi ?
Thanks in advance
P.s its a 2005 B7 2.0 TDI SE
Go to the dealer they normally carry all the sockets, theres not that many....
They should have the one that fits and will order one for you.

The kit should contain a screwdriver, bolt cap removal tool, tyre wrench and the locking nut key. The key is pretty obvious a socket with a 'star' type pattern on it.
Also look all around the spare wheel recess as it may just be left loose in there.

Hi guys.
Just a wee update on this post. I called the dealer regarding this and they commented that there are around 15 different types. They hold a set of masters so it's easy to match up the one you need.
Replacement key is £26 + VAT.

That's quite a lot just for the key- I got a set of 4 new locking nuts and key for £15 from Audi, when I rounded my old locking key- the RAC had a tapping tool to get the old locking nuts off.

I was quite shocked about the price.
The key almost looks like its designed to fail. It's manufactured from relatively soft metal. If the stud is seized at all, it just seems to strip the corners off the star pattern on the key.
The Audi wheel brace doesn't help mind you, because of it's shape it tends to pull the key at an angle causing it to slip off the stud. I tried using a 17mm socket and bar to try and apply a uniform force straight on the stud. Unfortunately the key is so badly stripped that it just slips off now.
Seems like I have no option but to pay the £26 + VAT. Or get the RAC to get it off with their tool as you have highlighted.
