Golf mk4 indicator/central locking fault

Hello, i hav got a fault on my golf mk4 when i lock the car with my remote keyfob. Occasionally the indicators on the nearside of the car stay on, however the indicators on the offside flash as normal. I can get the indicators on the nearside to go off if i keep pressing the lock button on the keyfob, but this is getting annoying as sometimes i forget to check the indicators go out, resulting in a flat battery. Any ideas would be great:confused:

It has been known for weird central locking behaviour to be a result of a leaking rear washer pipe. Remove the rear panel and check the state of everything in there, especially the electrics.

Hi, I've had the same problem with my indicators intermittently for 2 yrs! months of no problem then getting stuck on, have to press key fob 20-30 times to 'unstick'. changed hazard relay & check inside tailgate electrics- still no luck.:(

anybody any ideas please!

Hello, i posted the original thread. I am a mechanic myself and tried yesterday to solve the problem.

I checked the rear boot lock and found that to be ok.

I then looked at the bonnet lock. There is a microswitch which detects when the bonnet is shut. I unplugged this and still got the same fault. I then removed the microswitch from the lock (remove grille, unscrew torx bolts, cut tiny cabletie and slide clip attaching microswitch to lock downwards and simply moved microswitch out the way and gaffer taped up so activation couldnt occur by mistake).

Once this was done i tested out what i had done.

I found that when the car is locked with the keyfob it no longer flashes the indicators. Therefore the indicators cant stick on!

On opening the car the indicators flash as normal!

In my mind its a problem solved! Even though the fault may still be there, at least i wont get a flat battery again.

Hmmm, interesting fix. will have a go when I'm not looking after my ankle biter. intrigued to know if it works in the long run.
