Hi, Some advice needed please if anyone can help.

Firstly apologies if there is something on the forum regarding this, I did a search but couldn't find anything.

I have a 56 Plate Passat Estate TDi Sport.

One of the blue climate control temperature displays - at the bottom of the centre console either side of the control knobs - has gone **** up. The display has gone almost completly and I would asume needs a new one.

I contacted my dealer and they reckon - without looking at the car, what difference that makes god knows - that the whole climate control unit would have to be replaced at a cost of £276.
That seems a bit excessive - can the LCD displays be purchased separatley, I cant see no reason why not unless they are not on a simple plug. Surely you can just by a loom or something if not??

Any advice would be most appreciated

I may be right, may be wrong but isnt the digital control unit the same in the passat and the golf? Mine and wifes looks identical. If it is there are 2 on ebay (search under Golf climate) and they have one at a £10 so far and one at £30....

Cheers Redrolo,

It looks like the display is the same as a golf - mk 5 i believe. There are some on ebay similar at the moment, but not quite the same.

My passat has the 'Dual' function on the centre button for dual zone climate control. I dont have heated seats though as some golf units had the switches on for that.

I will keep an eye out on e bay and check the vw number with my dealer, but it looks like they are the same.

There are 12 different versions for the passat alone. You will need to know your cars options plus the trim colour.

Thanks to all that responded. A bit of info for anyone viewing this and needing help in the future.

I got a climate control unit from ebay for £70+delivery.

It was from a 2007 Golf and had all my functions on it i.e dual zone control and all the buttons mine had.

My original unit part No was: 3C0 907 044 AA and the part No for Golf unit was : 1K0 907 044 B0 and they are the same thing.
All connections same, everything works - and one hell of a saving as a replacement new unit from VW quoting the passat part no was £373, so I saved nigh on £300.
So beware - dont go buying a new one if you can get a good one this way, if part numbers look the same then chances are they are the same thing.

Am I also right in thinking it'd be pointless to replace these climate controls on passats that just have the semi-auto climate controls? I know that certain functions wouldn't work like heated seats, but would the dials still work in the same way, even though the LCDs may not?

thanks.

Being new to VW i thought when i first purchased mine that the display had gone :Blush2::Blush2::Blush2:. It was only when the dealer pointed out it was switched off and when switched on it would show a reading in the display :biglaugh::biglaugh:
