I have a few, and they get right on my ****! Is there any way to remedy??

The glovebox area is a bit sqeaky when pulling away, its had a new glovebox with the previous owner. I also have a bit of a knock/rattle just behind my head on the drivers B post.

Currently spoiling a good car!

Please tell me there's a cure my radio only goes SO LOUD!:aargh4:

Quatrelle, Thank You,

Funny enough I was just doing this before I got a 'response' email. Possibly found some cures, going to order up some ptfe spray and some silicone spray for the rubbers and see where we go.

Hope this cures it.

Is there any specific type of PTFE spray needed, seems to be loads on ebay?

Dry one is best, doesn't leave much of a trace. Then again, you can always wipe up any wet trace...For the sake of a few quid I'd buy both, they're always useful.

Both should be available from either diy or motorists' shops.

Can i ask what this spray is for and its uses

basically it is a lubricating anti friction spray. I'm wanting to use it on this occasion on some joints and on plastic to plastic surfaces that may sqeak when moving together. The Passats have some generic rattles and apparently the ptfe spray is a good solution.

You can also use it, for example, in the shuts to help the door rubbers seat correctly, although a dedicated rubber lubricant/preservative is better but messier.

Ok, I've had a do at this today!

Got some Dry Ptfe spray from Halfords in the motorbike section.

Started taking it all apart this aftrenoon, started on the instrument console as this was creaky. When I removed it it had some sections of felt stuck to it already, don't know whether this is std or if it had been back to the dealers previous to me having it?? Anyway I had some furniture feet pads, spongy and sticky backed so I cut them up and filled out the remaining spaces, then coated it in spray and rub it round the edges with a cloth. Then put it back together.

I then removed the radio and climate surrounds, sprayed the back and edges and sprayed the main plastic panels behind these trims, also squirted it into the fixing clips, and put back.

I then moved onto the piece above the glovebox but had one clip I couldn't get undone and thought I may break it, I clipped it back in place and pushed it and it didn't appear sqeaky so left it.

I also couldn't get the gearstick gaitor surround trim off, any ideas on this as altough not a major nuisance it still appears sqeaky when pushed.

I then did the glovebox, sprayed the lock, hinges, di the edges and sprayed down the sides from over the edge, otherwise I would have had to remove it and didn't really have time so thought I would see how it went.

I also did the side panel in the passenger footwell that attaches to the centre console, I took off the lower section, sprayed blindly up the back of the main section and did all the joining sections between the two.

I did all the door rubbers with Autoglymm vinyl and rubber care.

I took it for a spin and it is loads better, still sqeaky from the arm rest area at the back of it, so I will look into this when I have time.

Well worth the effort though, I think the door seals have made a noticable difference just on road noise.

Thanks for everyones help.

Luckily mine isn't a squeaker but last night I heard a slight squeak from the right of the dash. Forced my fingers into the gap where the door trim meets the end of the dash and the squeak stopped. Could this be another area that needs some felt, I wonder? The doors do move about a little on rough roads, as you would expect on even the stiffest car.

The doors do move with body flex, as when backing out my drive the road drops away and you could always hear the movement, now I've treated the door seals this noise on reversing out has gone!

Do they actually touch when the door is closed? I'd just spray in there if you've got any.
