View Full Version : Passat B6 Rear Seat Stuck

Hi,

I noticed today that my rear passenger seat won't release and is stuck in the locked position. The drivers side opens without any problem but the smaller half (passenger side) won't budge. I tried using the key from the back of the remote but it made no difference. I managed to pull the plastic up about 2cm where the lock and release switch are and could feel that the lock is no longer attached to anything hence turning the key has zero affect. Since doing this the orange release tab that pops up when the release mechanism is pulled has shifted back and now won't allow me to re-seat the plastic on top of the seat http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k25/mason76/SeatCatch.jpg.

I have no idea what to do with it as I don't know what the mechanism looks like, how to access it or who I could ask to check it out (certainly not VW who'll just say "New seat needed, that'll be £800 please" or words to that effect). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this is one of those annoying problems that could potentially be quite expensive to fix.

Thanks in advance.

This ain't much use, but I have a similar problem on my B5.5 passat, so if anyone know's anything about this one then please let me know on the link below!

My current option which I will attempt at some point next week (now the weather is better) is to rip off the rear padding of the seat from the boot... not going to be easy that, and my back might give out! lol :(

Hi there,

Did you get antwhere with solving this? I've got exactly the same problem.

I eventually got a wire coat hanger, straightened it, put a small kink in the end of it to make it an L shape, and had patience to eventually unclip it (took 15-20 mins to find the right spot) by poking it down where the unlock handle goes.

In terms of replacing it, I never got around to it, so I leave it unlocked and unclipped.

I had this issue with my 2006 passat. Once you get it unlocked, you can remove the plastic trim and pull everything out. Once it's out you can remove the lock cylinder and remove the tumblers. Once they're removed you can lock or unlock it without having to use the correct key.
