I wonder if anyone has any ideas on this one please.
Few months ago the wife’s 1.6 8v 03 (Dec) Golf idle started to be erratic, then after couple of weeks the engine light came on. Took it to an independent VW specialist who has been about for years and has a very good reputation, he said one fault was an implausible signal from G187 throttle body and the other was a fault with the EGR.
The EGR was recalibrated and the throttle housing cleaned.
The fault went away for two or so weeks till this morning the thing started running rough again, revs going from 500 to 1200. Get home and now the car starts and idles and hunts from 900 to 1200 but there is no response from the throttle what’s so ever. If it was an old cable type I would have said the cable was broken. If you start it and hold the pedal down you can keep the revs up above 2000rpm, let the pedal off and hey presto, idle and no throttle response.
I have sent most of my years restoring classic’s and old cars but I have checked every possible plug, sensor going on this and no go.
Any ideas would be so useful as this is looking like a trailer jobbie to the spec again.
Trouble is I don’t want to be told “I’ll have to just change things till it works” which was the last comment behind “I think that cured it”
