Hi all..
I have a problem with my 1999 s4.
When it was icy i turned on the wipers,,,DUH,,
They moved a little then stopped..

They will not work at all now.
I have checked fuses all seem ok.
removed motor and checked on bench and it still works..

The rear wiper is ok and all the washer jets work ok.

Any ideas because this is driving me nuts...:aargh4:

must be another fuse somewhere,or possibly a relay,although i can't help with location of either,sorry,but i'd say a fuse,

+1. I'd test the relay for continuity with a multimeter. If it's not the relay then you'll need to test each part of the circuit bit by bit from the switch to the motor, assuning you have power at the switch. It may be a wire that's burned out.

Ny idea where the relay is or a number would be great..

The relays are on the drivers side under the steering wheel. I think you need to remove the trim to get to them. I'll be able to check the manual in the morning to find out which one it is. for the moment I can say that fuse 24 controls the washers, wipers and intermittent relay. Obviously, if the washers are still going it's unlikely to be the fuse. Still worth a look though.

I've had a look through the manual and there's no information about the wiper relay's position. What it does say is that if you turn on a circuit you should be able to hear the relay click as it's energised. If there's no click there's either no power to the relay or the relay is faulty.

Failing this, I would suggest removing each relay in turn and testing the terminals they plug into for a 12v current, both with the wipers turned off and then again with the wipers turned on. You should be able to track down which is for the wipers and then test it to see if it's working.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Now sorted..
I had to call out an Auto Elec.

I found the relay cleaned it but still no go..

The Auto Elec had a look and guess what it was..

Yup the relay i cleaned up wasnt clean enough.

It now works fine

Thanks for the suggestions and help

Paul, I have exactly the same issue on a 1998 A4. I've purchased a 19 (321955531a) relay (6 terminals) which is supposed to be the correct one, but it does not seem to match any of mine! I can see a double on (top right - it has 387 on it).

I don't suppose you know the part number or number do you please?

I do find it odd that the relay locations diagram is not more freely available, as many people seem to look for this information.

Can anyone supply any more info on which relay it is? Was supplied one by TPS but it does not match any relay there.
When you say double, you mean double height?

Cheers
