Hi everyone.

I have a Passat CC with a factory fitted RCD510. I have just bought a RNS510 and premium bluetooth kit on ebay to fit in the vehicle, thankfully by someone who knows what they're doing.

I've looked at the bluetooth kit which arrived today but did not find a microphone? Would VW have fitted one at the factory in the centre roof panel just above the rear view mirror? Or is that wishful thinking and I need to source one?

Also, I've searched the forum for an uptodate list of phones the premium bluetooth kit will recognise, can anyone point me in the right direction here please. I have an iphone 3gs.

Thank you for your help

Bren

Hi

Thank you to everyone who read this post. I think I may have answered my question, I did not realise the vw mic is a short length of cable with a connector plug at one end and square rectangular mic at the other vw part number 3B0035711B.

I was looking for a more traditional mic on the end of a cable about 3m in length. I'm presuming this one plugs in somewhere in the area above the reaar view mirror?

Thanks

Bren

Hi, I fitted the same kit from eBay.
The mic location is just at the front interior light.
I started a write up here (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=81955) but ran into problems and never finished the pictures.
You have to remove some of the panels in the overhead unit.
The microphone panel is the one with the perforated section. It clips out and if you use a credit card, you can get them off without damaging them.
You then have to remove the sunglasses by inserting a slotted screwdriver into the two access holes, all of the other torx bolts that you need to remove will then become apparent.
There is a panel on the leading edge of the roof lining which the cable for the rain sensor goes to. One you have the panel off you can pop this out easily with your finger.
You can then pass the mic connector through the hole and tuck the cable along the leading edge of the roof lining towards the passenger A pillar.
Don't bother taking the pillar cover off because it is a bugger, instead just route the cable along the the top and pull back the window seal.
You can then easily run the cable down to the dash and allong the bottom.

I located the phone control box behind the 'D' shaped panel on the side of the dash. It is a tight fit but with a bit of thought, it can be done.
The remainder of the phone loom can then be run underneath the glovebox to behind the radio.

I can nip out and take some pictures if it will help and also feel free to PM me any Q???s.
Ed.

This swings down to reveal the first two torx to be removed.

The section is clipped in at the rear edge and will come free with a tug, no need to prise with a driver or anything. The front edge towards the windscreen is held in place by two lugs. The mic is the black rectangle you can see.
This will probably give you enough room to work with but if you need to you can remove the entire roof section by pulling out the sunglasses holder and undoing 4 torx.

Have you bought the kit yet? If you can wait until next weekend I was going to make a quick video of the whole process. Could maybe be useful to others and take the concern away from a DIY fitting.

I have bought a kit but have since found out that it's not compatable with my iphone!!!! :aargh4:

Apparantly the version E VW bluetooth kit is non-rSAP which will work with the iphone, so this week I'll be sending one back and getting the one that will work. (Thats the plan anyway)

A picture paints a thousand words, thank you very much for uploading them, I'm looking forward to the video footage.

Thanks

This is a very useful site and describes the differences between the bluetooth modules.

This is an American site but also gives lots of info.
