Hi All

During the recent cold snap the battery on my Mk iv golf lost it's charge as I hadn't started it for a few days. I took out the battery, not as simple as I had expected, and charged it over night. I have refitted the battery, but now the ABS warning light and the Exclamation light to the right of it are on constantly. Does anyone one have any idea why this would be the case? I know very little about the workings of cars. Would the battery being disconnected and returned have any baring on the ABS? Would this simply be as a result of the cold snap? Or is it just a coincidence that both things happened at the same time? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance
John

Drive it a few yards and the ABS and traction control light should go out. It need the recalibrate. My MK5 does the same.

Thanks for the response onzarob, but I have been driving it and there is no change on the dashboard. I suspect I will need to get the fault diagnosed to establish the problem.

It might just need clearing and all will be well.

A low voltage battery will activate the control light and there will be a fault logged in the ABS control unit, you will need to delate the fault

Thanks for the response Kenney, to my untrained mind this would seem like a likely reason for the fault as there was no indication of a fault before the flat battery. How would I go about deleting the fault? Should I just take it to my local dealer and get them to have a look? I assume my ABS will still be working under these conditions?

Cheers

Any garage with diagnostic equipment can read and delete the fault code. The ABS is not functional if the control light is on
