Same as last year my 02 V6 4motion does not want to start from cold when the ambient temp is below about 2 c.
The battery is quite new and perfect, the motor spins over fast but does not want to fire up. It tries to fire but often splutters and cuts back out unless you touch the accelerator (which you should not do). If you do open the throttle slightly it does start but you have to be carefull not to rev it before oil pressure is built up.
There are no fault codes, all the sensors are reading as you would expect and on advice I changed the temp sensor last year (first start after doing it was good and I thought it was fixed then back to normal).
Looking through forums it seems to be common on a few models (poss motronic characteristic)? I am convinced it is a software issue does anyone know if you can reprogram these ecu's?
After the first start of the day and all through the year it starts perfectly and you tend to forget about it.

Could it be something to so with the glow plugs not heating the engine up?

Its a petrol , no glow plugs.... What did you get it scanned with? I would be going to a main dealer at this stage if I were you. May be expensive but at least you will get it sorted

Scanned with my vag com. Yes it was a genuine vw sensor (green one I seem to remember - there is more than one on the engine) .
As I said before it seems to be a known issue certainly with V5 & V6 models. Once it is running there is no problem at all, it does not stall. Also I have cleaned the throttle body with carb cleaner. I work for Vauxhall dealer and it is common for numerous software updates to fix running faults(egr issues, misfires at certain rev ranges, over sensative knock sensing etc etc), I think possibly because it is a low volume model VW hope the issue will just "go away"?
Is there anyone with one of these cars whose engine starts ok in this weather & does anyone know if VW carries out software upgrades?
