What a magic bit of software. Identifed magically that the problemI had with my airbags was the driver side. Found some sites that detailed the resistor 4.7Ohm you had to connect to disable the air bag on the drivers side (For people normally fitting 3rd part seats). It clears the fault, but it comes back on again :-(., Now it's either something more serious (its a 1999 B5 VW Passat Estate 1.8T) or the "free"/shareware version clears the codes, but doesn't really. Point is I don't know. On the face of it it should. Does anyone know if you have to pay for the licence to I suppose clare the DTC codes completly. Would be silly to spend the money of it doesn't do anything else. Or any Vag-com users in Cambridge/Baldock area?

Thanks in adavance for any help.

Only a fully registered version can clear the airbag codes (or a trip to the dealership £££)

Thank you, that makes sense, how else would you get people to pay for the software. On the face of it the interface says it clears the fault code, and in the airbag section it says its cleared. When yoiu exit after a little while the fault light comes back on.

So just so I'm sure the registered version clears the DTC codes (?) whilst the freewasre/shareware version just informs you that the fault has been cleared?

Just got a reply from ross-tech
"Clearing the fault code does not fix the problem that caused the error in the first place. Clearing fault codes works the same way in shareware and in fully registered form."

So in effect registering my version won't fix my problem, damn, means it's not the airbag since the 4.7Ohm resisitor should have disabled the drivers side according to some other forums :-(

I'd look into recoding the controller to omit the side airbags.

That sounds interesting, can vag-com do that? Anyone had any experience of recoding it? Sounds dangerous if you don't know what your doing.

Yes.

It can be done with vagcom.

The difficulty may be establishing what sequence of number you need to code it.
