I have fitted my Tom Tom Sat Nav into previous cars by taking a live feed (when ignition on) from the fusebox via an in-line fuse to a cigar lighter socket. Here I plug in the power feed to the Tom Tom unit.
In this way the Tom Tom plug unit which transforms the voltage is not interfered with. The loose fit cigar lighter with the Tom Tom plug is easily accommodated beneath the dash with just 6 inches or so of cable poking up to a point beneath the Tom Tom mount. In this way all wires are hidden, the Sat Nav unit is properly fused and the whole assembly is easy to disassemble when its time to change cars.
This is I believe, the method that Halfords use to fit in the units - but for a fee of some £40 - £50.
So what is the questioon?
I now have a 2009 A4. The fusebox is easy to locate. But how/where can I pick up a live ignition driven feed?
