Has anyone out there tried installing BNS 5.0 to an A4 (2002 B6) before? I've just tried (with the correct adapter wires installed) and get bu**er all, no radio, no CD, no display, nothing! The unit doesn't seem to power up at all although I can hear a couple of very faint clicks through the speakers about 2 seconds after I've pressed the power button. I've had my VCDS interrogating the system and it doesn't seem to recognise anything. When I plug the radio back in it works as before (thankfully as I hate driving without music!).
Is it possible to power the unit externally to get a display? Am I missing somethjing obvious or am I about to take a trip down 'negative feedback street'?
And before anyone says it - yes, maybe I should have bought an RNS-E. That's the benefit of hindsight....

It was available on the A4 but I dont know why you'd want one!
Anyways, are you 100% all the wires are in the correct slots? aftermarket wiring adapters are often wired up wrongly

Like I said, the benefits of hindsight!
I can't be 100% sure that the connector is correct without suitable wiring information / schematics, although my previous experiences have been good. Does anyone have the pin-out information to enable me to check?
If I can get the unit to power up on the bench I can start looking elsewhere for the problem.

Not to urinate on your chips, but have you seen a BNS working? Is it worth the effort? (I'd be putting it back on Ebay and trading up to the RNS-E)
If you want to keep it, then there should be a pin out on your old unit and on the BNS. Match them up, the K-line is often in a different position - this might be why VCDS cant access it. Get this correct, double check the CAN H+L are the right way round. Has the BNS got its own fuse in it? Check thats good.
Do you have a copy of ELSAWIN? The pinouts will be in there.

Yes, checked it with ELSAWIN which doesn't seem to list the BNS 5.0 - or at least not on the A4, A3 and TT models I've checked. I've tried powering it up independently on the bench and bu**re all happens (switched +ve to pin 13, perm +ve to pin 15 and -ve to pin 12). The only sign of life is that it will gobble up a CD and spit it out again, so the deck logic must be working. I suppose the big question is can it be powered up on a bench independantly of a car or does it have to have CAN connections before it will work?

I'd double check the connections, get it into a car with the CAN wires and the K-line diagnostic wire connected correctly and have another bash with VCDS
