Hello all,
I have a 170tdi Avant FWD which is the MY2010 model with stop/start, and have not been too impressed with the MPG so far.

I reset the readout which then showed an average of 41.2, while the actual was 38.1, this was while driving my daily commute of 15 miles, half B roads and half dual carriage way, on a long motorway run I have recorded 45 at best which is probably more like 42.
The car has covered 4K miles so should be run in ok

My old Passat 130tdi Sport used to average a true 45 which included my daily commute, and on a run would do 50, so a tank usually lasted 600 miles while the Audi gives just 500 on a few litres more.

But what I have noticed is how long it takes for the engine to get up to temperature, I am driving 8 - 10 miles before it reaches 90. The Passat took half that distance.

Can anyone let me know if they are acheiving better figures than I am, or worse, and also if their engines get up to temperature any quicker.

Many thanks, and Happy Xmas

i've noticed a similar long warm up time on my car

fuel figures are pretty much same as mine too

(though mines a 2008 2.7 multitronic putting out approx 240 bhp post bluefin)

I have done a similar transition

I would get ~48-50mpg on day-to-day driving and 52-55 on the motorway from my '04 Passat 130 Sport.

The Audi my2010 170d quattro is reporting 38-40 on day-to-day - and even on a 400 mile run yesterday i only got 45mpg recorded.

I'm only on 2.5k in the Audi and it took 10-15 k for the Passat to loosen up, so have my fngers crossed...

I hope you are correct and it will improve in time; I had my 03 passat from new but didn't take much notice of the consumption as it was miles better than the Mondeo I had before.
But I am surprissed the Audi takes so long to warm up, as this must reduce fuel consumption.

I can only agree. My car gets used for quite a few journeys during the week and hence the poor mpg. A run into London and back boosted it to 35mpg (on DIS) which is considerably different. I find a run needs to be about 5 - 10 miles before the cars warmed up.

Dont Forget with it been near freezing it will take longer for your engine to warm up.

Ive just bought a Audi 2.0tdi 170BHP s-line at the minute im only getting 40MPG on my run to work of 30 miles round trip im hoping it will do up to 42-44 when the weather warms up.

When i had my VW Passat 1.9tdi 130BHP i was getting 50MPG in the summer but that when`t down to 46MPG in the cold weather we have been having.
