Seems a common problem, drivers rear door (02 tdi estate) door locked shut. Have eventually got all the metal panel off and can now at least see the lock. Anyone worked out how to get the door undone without wrecking it? Possibly an easier question, whats the method for getting the multiplug off the lock unit? I bet theres a whole department at VW to make it bloody difficult for people to repair cars- Ve vill take over ze vorld!

Any help on the above, and indeed why the nice, but plastic, lock doesn't work and what I might do with it very much appreciated, and don't say light it - I've already thought of that!

Have a look at the link on the other "door problem" thread.

I think, it is the case, that a deadlocked doorlock will not open off the interior handle, but if locked but not deadlocked, it will open off the interior handle.
There have been posts suggesting smashing the lock with a lump hammer and chisel.
Another post suggested using an SDS drill on hammer action only. Not sure whether this just shocked the lock into 'non deadlocked' mode or whether he went all the way and destroyed the lock?
