Hi All,

I'm here to draw on your collective wisdom!

I have a 96 A4 Avant TDI 110 AFN with 150k miles on the clock.

About two weeks ago, I noticed that there has been a big decrease in the power. She used pull very well but now she's very weak.

The engine doesn't rev as freely anymore and she belches out plumes of black smoke if you floor it.

It feels as if there is something slipping in the engine (not the clutch) when you accelerate hard.

And sometimes when your just crusing along at 50 or 60 the engine will lose revs temporarily (nothing too major - but enough to notice that she is losing the revs).

First bit of trouble she's given now in a year and i'd like to get it sorted. Its nearly embarassing now with the smoke!

I have vag com ordered and its due here this week.

is there any simple test i can do to see if its something like the MAF?

thanks
C.

Check your boost hoses

Worth checking the intercooler hoses as well.

you guys were spot on. it was a small crack in the rubber pipe joining the rigid plastic pipe that runs around the back of the engine down to the intercooler to the top of the EGR valve housing.

€32 plus vat for the piece of rubber 2inches long! Rip off republic.

thanks guys

That`s what we are here for, is to help one another. The hose you mentioned is the same one that had split on mine, only found it when I completely removed it.
